Why We Give Thanks: The Origin of American Thanksgiving

We’ve all heard about Pilgrims and Wampanoag Native Americans sharing a meal at Plymouth Plantation in 1621,
but is that the entire story of Thanksgiving? What about the earlier day of Thanksgiving held at Berkley Plantation in Virginia in 1619, or the Spanish Thanksgiving held in Florida in 1565? In this program, these competing claims and more will be presented to create a more complete understanding of the holiday we call Thanksgiving.
