Event Details
Is your trash a sea animal's lunch? Find out firsthand as National Wildlife Refuge staff help us take apart a real Laysan albatross bolus from Midway Atoll in the Pacific Ocean. Albatrosses are seabirds that can spend as much as 6 years at sea without touching land. They feed their fast-growing chicks by regurgitating lots of squid, flying fish eggs and fish larva into their chick's mouth. Much like an owl pellet, a bolus is all the indigestible material that is "thrown up" by the juvenile chick. It's time to investigate and talk about what we can do to help albatrosses and the many other magnificent creatures of our oceans!
